Australian Labradoodle puppy checklist: what you need

The countdown has started: not long now, and you’ll be able to welcome your Australian Labradoodle puppy to your home. Use the waiting time wisely to prepare for the arrival of your new canine companion. So, what do you really need? We’ve compiled this Australian Labradoodle puppy checklist for you.

The essentials

Your Australian Labradoodle’s basic equipment should include:

  • Puppy Pen: a private space for your Labradoodle where it can retreat and sleep in peace.
  • Leash and Collar: a well-fitting collar and lead. Your breeder can assist you in making the right choice!
  • Dog bed or Basket: for cosy lounging.
  • Food and Water Bowls: available in various shapes and sizes. Ensure it’s not too large or too small and can hold sufficient food and water.
  • Grooming Supplies: a good brush, dog shampoo, and nail clippers are essentials to have at home.
  • Poo Bags: keeping things tidy!

Quality food

Australian Labradoodles eat fresh meat, #kibble, or a combination of the two. Ask your breeder what your puppy is used to and feed it this to start with. If you want to switch to different food later on, gradually mix the new and old food to allow your puppy’s digestive system to adjust.

Fun toys

You can never have too many toys! Labradoodles enjoy a challenge, which helps them burn off energy. Consider intelligence toys or toys to chew on. Throwing balls is not advised as this is very physically demanding due to rapid movements followed by sudden stopping.

Have you thought of this too?

Don’t forget to make your house puppy-proof. Remove small objects, secure cables, and put poisonous house plants out of reach. Are there areas in which the puppy isn’t allowed? Block them off with a baby gate. Also, choose a vet and save their number in your phone for emergencies.

Completed the Australian Labradoodle puppy checklist?

Check, check, double-check? Are you sure you’ve got everything? Consult your breeder. They are best placed to know how to prepare for the arrival of a puppy.
