Everything About the Sizes, Coats, and Colors of the Australian Labradoodle

No two Australian Labradoodles are the same. Some have wavy coats, while others have curly fur. And that’s not even mentioning the different colors and sizes! What are the exact sizes, colors, and coat types? We’ve listed them all for you.

Size: From Mini to Standard

Australian Labradoodles are officially divided into three sizes. The best fit for you depends on your living space, lifestyle, and personal preference.

  • Mini (35-42 cm, 7-13 kg)
Small but mighty! This size is perfect for people living in an apartment or a smaller home. Despite their compact size, minis often have an energetic and playful personality.
  • Medium (43-52 cm, 13-23 kg)
A perfect balance—neither too big nor too small. This size suits various households, from single-person homes to families with children.
  • Standard (53-63 cm, 23-30 kg)
This gentle giant tends to be more relaxed than its mini sibling. Due to its size, it is best suited for people with enough space.

Regardless of size, every Labradoodle needs exercise and mental stimulation. So, whether you choose a mini or a standard, make sure to take them on enriching walks where they can sniff and explore, along with interactive games to keep them engaged.

Colors: From Black to Red and Everything in Between

Australian Labradoodles come in a wide range of colors. Some colors remain the same throughout their lives, while others fade or lighten with age.

  • Black
A deep, glossy color that sometimes fades to silver.
  • White
    A bright, clean shade.
  • Cream, Apricot, and Gold
Warm tones ranging from pale yellow to rich golden hues.
  • Chocolate and Café
Rich brown shades that may lighten over time.
  • Red
A stunning, intense color that attracts many Labradoodle lovers.
  • Lavender
A unique shade resembling a lighter version of chocolate.
  • Caramel
A rich golden hue that varies from light to dark.
  • Parchment
A coffee-with-milk color. Puppies are born milk-chocolate-colored and develop this shade within 1 to 3 years.
  • Silver
Ranging from tin to charcoal tones. Puppies are born black, and their color changes within 1 to 3 years.
  • Parti and Phantom
Unique coat patterns where the dog has two or more colors.

Choosing between a dark or light Labradoodle? It’s all a matter of taste—color has no impact on personality!

Coat: Fleece or Wool?

One of the reasons Australian Labradoodles are so popular is their allergy-friendly coat. However, not all Labradoodles have the same coat texture. Here are the main types:

  • Fleece coat – Soft and wavy or lightly curly. This coat is easy to maintain and feels silky to the touch.
  • Wool coat – Denser and curlier, almost like a sheep’s wool. This coat barely sheds but requires more grooming.
  • Curly fleece – A mix of both: soft but with more curls.

No matter the coat type, regular brushing is essential! A well-maintained coat prevents tangles and keeps your Labradoodle looking and feeling great.
